Members of the Occupy Omaha movement are being asked to move. When demonstrators set up camp at a parking lot at 24th & Farnam last week, it was their third place they have staked out. Omaha police says the site is not designed to be used that way and demonstrators have yet to seek a permit.
Police are inviting the group to move to Elmwood Park which can host the protest. A permit at Elmwood Park would be $35 a day. Since the park is closed overnight, demonstrators would not be legally allowed to camp overnight.
The Omaha City Council would have to approve an overnight camp.
Police say it usually takes two weeks to approve a permit, but they would likely expedite the process for Occupy Omaha if the group is interested.
Members of the group say they will not move from their current location until it is approved by their General Assembly.
