Police on Sunday identified the man shot to death Saturday afternoon as 23-year-old Jer'ray Moore of Omaha. Now his mother is trying to raise funds to give him a proper burial.

Moore was found outside an apartment complex in the Peony Park neighborhood near 83rd and Underwood shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Tricia Moore, Jer'ray's mother, was devastated to learn the news about her son. “We don’t know what to feel. We want answers. We want to know what happened. We don’t know what happened. We would really like to know what happened and why. Why did someone take my son’s life?”

Officers continue to look for leads and witnesses. "We believe other people were in the area at the time and have information that they either witnessed or heard and we would like them to come forward and speak to detectives," said OPD Officer James Shade.

Anyone with information may call homicide detectives directly at 402-444-5652 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward, call 402-444-7867.
