The Omaha Police Department released the results Thursday of its participation in the nationwide “You Drink You Drive You Lose” campaign that took place from December 13th through January 1st.
The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety awarded $21,709 to fund extra officers on the streets to detect and apprehend alcohol and drug-impaired drivers. There were 10 operations conducted at various dates and times throughout the city.
The results included 53 arrests for driving under the influence (38 charges for first offense DUI, 11 charges for second offense DUI, three charges for felony offense DUI and one provisional operator’s permit DUI), 43 minor in possession charges, two open container of alcohol charges, 11 arrests for operating during suspension, 13 arrests for careless/negligent driving and seven arrests for possession of marijuana and drug equipment.
There were 380 total citations issued, 101 for speeding.
