A northwest Iowa boy was killed Wednesday evening while operating a snowmobile in a creek. Thirteen-year-old Raymond Gatzemeyer struck a rope that was suspended between two pillars of a bridge just before 5 p.m.
The accident happened on a creek southwest of Fonda in Pocahontas County. Raymond was with a group that included two other snowmobiles and an all-terrain vehicle. No one else was hurt.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the boy was wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
