An explosion damaged a grain elevator in Gothenburg, Nebraska Wednesday morning, scattering debris onto nearby railroad tracks and a highway. No injuries were reported.
Dawson County Emergency Management Director Brian Woldt says the
explosion happened at the All Points Cooperative as trucks and rail cars were being loaded.
Woldt says the explosion blew the tops off two silos. Debris was found on nearby railroad tracks and on U.S. Highway 30, which runs in front of the elevator. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
Woldt says equipment will lift crews up to inspect the silos and aerial inspections will also be conducted. No residents in the town of about 4,000 people were evacuated, but a nearby gas station was closed.
