The frigid temperatures haven’t stopped door to door frozen meat sales. Fact Finders has a warning after a 77-year old woman buys from an unlicensed salesman.
Rahe is the customer who asked not to have her last name revealed. She says, "It looked like a real good deal."
But from freezer to the frying pan Rahe noticed a difference in the meat she bought from a door to door salesman
Rahe says, " I know time passes and things change but I’ve never seen a rib eye look like that."
Six boxes of frozen meat Rahe purchased after a knock on the door at eight thirty one night. She says, " I’ve always said to everybody don't buy anything from somebody who comes to your door and then there I did."
The meat cost her 168 dollars. Half price the salesman said so he didn't have to take the boxes back to Kansas City.
Fact finders found the salesman’s lack of credentials doesn't smell right at the Council Bluffs city clerk's office Marcia Worden Council Bluffs city clerk says, " They need a background check and that was not completed and they did not come in to obtain a license."
The better business bureau issued an F rating and a warning BBB President Jim Hegarty says, " That’s the instant red flag if its do it with us now or never."
Rahe can't get hold of the company to return the meat she won't even use as a treat for her dog. She says, " I didn't ask if he had a permit to sell it. I guess I’m too trusting."
The seventy seven year old widow cancelled the check and closed her bank account.
Fact Finders called direct foods of Kansas City. Right after asking about the lack of permits-- the person who answered hung up.
