A fire Saturday night that forced a family from their Omaha home was sparked by a malfunctioning extension cord.
The blaze at 91st Avenue and Mockingbird Drive, between L and Q streets, was mostly contained to the garage. No one was hurt. Damage was estimated at around $8,000.
The homeowner said he smelled smoke and found a small fire in the garage. He tried to put it out, but wasn't successful so he called 911. An SUV parked inside wasn’t damaged, but a riding lawn mower was destroyed.
