New Schools & Attitude in Council Bluffs

Council Bluffs schools kick off a new school year tomorrow with some new additions. Officials hope to take the excitement surrounding two new, state of the art schools and turn that into and better grades and graduation rates.

Council Bluffs students may be turning the corner on education and new schools in Council Bluffs and Carter Lake symbolize that. Officials in the district wanted to change the culture and put a greater emphasis on education by building momentum from the ground up.

Principal Sue Rice is proud to show off College View Elementary even if it is still a few hours away from being ready for the open house.

That pride is contagious.

Erin Schoening says, "It is going to be an amazing opportunity for them."

Erin Schoening's daughters will attend College View and are as excited as their mother. Erin will be teaching at the new school so she has seen first hand how special the place is.

Erin Schoening says, "We've got mini computers, the students are going to have access to with wireless Internet throughout the building. Our media center is going to be state of the art, it is just awesome."

Tuesday afternoon the finishing touches were being put on the building while teachers organized their classrooms.

Dr. Martha Bruckner says, "Parents and kids get the sense that the community cares about them, that school is important and that it is a modern place to be."

The teachers have to carry that excitement over into the learning experiences of the students.

In addition to College View and the new school over in Carter Lake, Hoover, Longfellow and Abraham Lincoln have all been renovated. Next on the renovation list Edison and Roosevelt schools.
