South Sarpy School District Number 46 has a new name. On Tuesday, the school board approved changing the name to Springfield Platteview Community Schools.
The school board points out that all school districts in Nebraska are legally named by their county and school district numbers. However, school boards do have the discretion to determine an “also known as” name.
Brett Richards, who will become the school district’s superintendent July 1, says the new name will help put the district on the map for non-residents. He says it will also strengthen the district’s partnership with the city of Springfield and it will tie in the historic Platteview name.
The school board plans to implement a new logo and slogan for the 2012-13 school year.
The school district educates 1,050 students from kindergarten through high school.
