The Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail's new Norfolk bridge has been installed and is open for use.

The bridge sits three miles west of Norfolk where it crosses the Elkhorn River. The old bridge was washed out in 2010.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says a two-mile stretch of trail west of the bridge has been repaired. But the remainder of the trail west to Battle Creek is under construction.

Work will continue into the fall to repair damage along 22 miles of the trail. The public may get updates from OutdoorNebraska.org to see which sections are closed for repairs.

The commission says the Cowboy Trail used to be part of the Chicago and North Western railroad's Cowboy Line. The trail runs 321 miles across northern Nebraska, from Norfolk to Chadron.
