An appeals court is ordering a new trial for a Waterloo, Iowa teacher convicted of inappropriate behavior toward a 17-year-old male student who he had strip in his home.
The court ruled Wednesday that jurors who convicted Larry Twigg of lascivious conduct toward a minor shouldn't have heard about similar behavior with two previous students.
Twigg invited the student to his home to make up work and had him play a video game in which he took off a piece of clothing every time he lost. The student disrobed to his boxers, was spanked and had chocolate syrup and other ingredients poured on him.
Twigg argued the actions resulted from head injuries he suffered in a car accident. The court said it's not clear whether Twigg's conduct was sexually motivated.
