Not everyone is looking forward to a sunny day that melts this snow. A Bellevue couple worries about leaks from above even though they had a roof installed just six months ago. Its about missing pieces that all homeowners should ask about when replacing a roof.
Raven and Ken Von Behren said they're shocked that a roof installed last summer got the city's seal of removal. Raven Von Behren said "The roof doesn't meet code,we can't sell it we can't do anything,we have to start all over from the beginning."
A hole in the ceiling lead the homeowners to call for a city inspection and the roof is red tagged for exposed nails torn shingles in spots and decking installed without clips. The couple has been told by roofing experts that without these clips installed the roof might buckle and warp over time.
The owner of Exterior Remodel and Design calls the lack of the decking clips a mistake and offered to redo the roof. But he claims the homeowners have been unreasonable. The homeowners said they paid half or seven thousand dollars down on a roof the city red tagged. They filed suit. Ken Von Behren said " I find it incredible that when its specifically listed in the contract to use these decking clips on the new roof that they were not used at all."
Exterior Remodel and Design has an "A" minus rating with the Better Business Bureau. In a response to the BBB the owner admits the roof is not up to code but claims that is because he misunderstood Bellevue building code on the width of decking that requires clips.
The owner claims he's still owed seven thousand dollars on the Bellevue roof project and is demanding payment.
The homeowners say they want their down payment back and thousands of dollars more to hire someone else. The issue will go before a judge in Sarpy county.
