Children and their families have a new and improved Omaha park to play in. The Nebraska Children's Home Society & Family Center unveiled the new Nature Explore Playground at Fontenelle Boulevard and Pratt Street Friday afternoon.
It includes a climbing area, a dirt digging area and more. The celebration continued Friday night with a block party complete with free food. Organizers said the goal was bringing families together.
“It's really important to have a fun place to be able to go, a safe place and a safe night out,” said the NCHS Director Meghan Malik. “The NCHS has been in this neighborhood since 1924 and this is not our building, it's the neighborhood building, it's the neighborhood grounds. We built the Nature Explore Playground really for the neighbors. We want families to come on the weekends and at night and play."
Services available through the NCHS' Children and Family Center include one-on-one support for teen and young parents, Teen Chat for girls, prenatal and parenting classes, Doula services, early childhood education services, a learning center and a community garden.
