The Mall of the Bluffs has been a landmark in Council Bluffs for more than 25 years. But all of it's large anchor stores have moved away in recent years. But recent happenings have the future looking much brighter.
Stores like Retro Junction say they do good business in spite of the absence of the anchor stores. "The stores that are here, there's a good variety of merchandise here. So for our local community, there's still plenty here for certain items that they might be looking for," said Tony Krejcl of Retro Junction.
Last week a new owner took over the property and promises to revitalize the mall. That has mall businesses encouraged about the future.
"I think everybody is somewhat relieved now that they know what the future holds in store for the mall. And actually new blood creates new excitement. And I think now we're ready to move forward and see what the new owners can possibly do here with this property," Krejcl said.
The revitalized mall is good news for the whole area. "It's going to revitalize a large building in that area. We've got a lot of traffic there, a lot of houses, a lot of businesses that surround it. So by seeing it come back to life, and a life that it used to be, is really going to be good for the area," Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan said.
After 12 years at the mall Krejcl says he doesn't plan on going anywhere. "Hopefully that will get some people to come back here and experience what the mall has to offer," Krejcl said.
