An Omaha neighborhood is encouraging graffiti artists to spray away. The Bancroft Street Market, Black Book Designs and the Deer Park Neighborhood Association are putting the can to the barrier for the third annual Abstract Concrete Graffiti Throwdown.
Eight contestants have been chosen from a Facebook competition based on their past works and the number of "likes" they received. The competition offers local artists a chance to spray their work in a friendly competition.
Each will have a set amount of time to transform regular jersey barriers into unique works of art. Each artist has a unique style that will be chosen by three individuals prominent in the local art scene.
Abstract Concrete was designed to present Omaha artists a positive backdrop for their talents and give them exposure to people who might not normally see their talents. Some artists have been commissioned for public murals, private canvases and have also publicized their art at the Universally Human and Vinton Street Creativity Festivals.
The event is Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at 10th and Bancroft. Entries may be viewed on Abstract Concrete Graffiti Throwdown’s Facebook page or via a link on the Deer Park Neighborhood Association’s Facebook page.
