The guard says it has planned four homecoming celebrations for the 134th Cavalry Regiment to coincide with the staggered arrival of the soldiers. The first celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday at Lincoln East High School, with Gov. Dave Heineman in attendance. Others are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday in Fremont, 3 p.m. Monday in Hastings and 10 a.m. Tuesday in Lincoln.
The unit was deployed about a year ago. The soldiers, along with about 3,000 members of the Iowa National Guard, have been training and mentoring members of the Afghan army and police force. The Iowa soldiers came home over the past week.
