Sixty-five members of a Nebraska Army National Guard unit that lost a soldier in Afghanistan returned home on Friday.
The members of B Company, 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion were honored at a homecoming ceremony in Grand Island. They'd been in Afghanistan for the past year, helping transport troops, supplies and equipment.
While deployed, the unit lost Staff Sgt. Patrick Hamburger of Grand Island. He was among 30 Americans and eight Afghans who died August 6, 2011 when a rocket-propelled grenade downed their Chinook helicopter during a combat mission.
