Nebraska Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Heavican is expected to announce new pilot programs designed to improve efficiency in both urban and rural state courts.

Heavican will deliver his State of the Judiciary remarks to the Legislature Thursday. The chief justice is expected to discuss the court's work to develop programs that would allow for shared
services across county lines.

The programs are designed to preserve jobs in rural courts, while easing the workloads in busier urban courts.

Heavican is also expected highlight the state's work in recent years to bolster services for children and the elderly, as well as the rise of community-based probation programs and new computer technology.
