Nebraska Unemployment: Good & Bad News
The state of Nebraska continues to enjoy one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. However, figures out Thursday provide a mixed bag of news.
The preliminary jobless rate for January 2013 remained at 3.8%. That is unchanged from December 2012 and 0.3% lower than January 2012’s figure of 4.1%.
The figures above are seasonally adjusted. New numbers have been released for Omaha the Lincoln. However the seasonally adjusted figures are not yet available for the two cities.
The city of Omaha saw a sharp increase in the unemployment rate in January. It grew from 4.1% in December to 5.0% in January. When you compare Omaha’s jobless rate in January to January of 2012, the figures were the same: 5.0%
Lincoln also saw a sharp increase in the unemployment rate from December to January. It changed from 3.4% to 4.2%. January’s 4.2% jobless rate was 0.4% higher than January 2012.
