Funeral Held For Nebraska Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

Gov. Dave Heineman has granted the request of Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler for flags to be flown at half-staff in Lincoln on Friday in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Benjamin Prange of Hickman, Nebraska. The 30-year-old Norris High School graduate was killed July 24th while on duty in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Prange and 19-year-old Pfc. Keith Williams of Visalia, California died when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device in Kandahar Province. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

Staff Sgt. Prange was on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan.

His funeral was held Friday at Southwood Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Interment with full military honors followed at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been set up at First State Bank with all proceeds going to his wife and two sons.
