Police are investigating the death of a central Nebraska man who was sitting on the tracks before being hit by a Union Pacific freight train.
Police say 41-year-old Shane Peck of Grand Island was killed Wednesday shortly after 5 p.m. Peck was reportedly sitting facing east when the westbound train struck and killed him. Initially, it was believed that he was crossing the tracks.
A nearby railroad crossing in Grand Island was closed for more than an hour after the accident.
