A bill making its way through the Nebraska Legislature could mean changes for children's skin health. LB 132 or the Skin Cancer Prevention Act would prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from tanning in tanning beds.
If passed, anyone who owned a bed and lets a minor use it could be charged with a Class V misdemeanor. The bill also requires tanning bed owners to post warning signs outside their beds that warn of potential health risks. Indoor tanning has been known to cause various skin cancers like melanoma and carcinoma.
State lawmakers heard the bill for the first time on Friday.
