A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight Sunday for much of eastern Nebraska, including Omaha. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for Nebraska counties south of the metro and a large portion of western Iowa, including Council Bluffs.
More than 94,000 people attended the Nebraska State Fair during its first three days at Fonner Park in Grand Island.
The 94,776 who attended from Friday through Sunday is similar to the 2011 attendance figure. Fair officials say 330,000 people attended the fair last year, its second since moving from Lincoln to Grand Island.
State fair board chairwoman Jana Kruger noted Tuesday that surveys of fair-goers so far this year show that 79 percent attended the event last year. She says that's encouraging because it indicates that if fair promoters can entice people to come to Grand Island, they likely will return.
The 11-day fair ends on Labor Day.
