Nebraska Beef announced Wednesday it is contributing $30,000 to a fund established to cover funeral expenses for four workers killed in a traffic accident last Friday near Waterloo.
Thirty-five-year-old Manuel Leon Lopez, 20-year-old Pedro Soc Ortiz, 19-year-old Gabriel Ralias Juarez and 29-year-old Mario Alvarez Simaj, all of Fremont, were on their way to work in Omaha when the car went out of control in foggy conditions on an icy overpass on Highway 275 near West Maple Road around 5 a.m. and struck an oncoming pickup.
The driver of the pickup, 64-year-old Douglas Nowicki of Waterloo, was injured.
Nebraska Beef says two of the victims were hired last November, the other two were just hired this month.
