A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for central Pottawattamie and central Lancaster counties until 4:30 p.m. and Nemaha, northeastern Pawnee and northwestern Richardson counties until 5 p.m. A tornado watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Sunday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln.
Authorities say a driver feels really bad about leaving a four-year-old boy on a school bus in southeast Nebraska.
Kathryn Harling reported that she'd put her son, Xander Reeves, on a bus about 7:45 a.m. Friday so he'd be taken to preschool in Firth.
Lancaster County Sheriff's Capt. Ben Houchin says the driver dropped six kids off at the school but forgot or didn't notice Xander, who probably had fallen asleep in his seat.
The bus barn was about 300-400 yards from the boy's classroom, but Xander showed up in class about 11 a.m.
The 66-year-old bus driver was a substitute who was unfamiliar with the route. He was cited for misdemeanor child neglect.
Houchin said the driver, "Feels really, really, really, really bad."
