On the eve of the 147th anniversary of Nebraska statehood on Saturday, the committee responsible for organizing the 150th statehood anniversary celebration in 2017 unveiled its plans Friday in Lincoln.
Nebraska Sesquicentennial plans include enhancing historical education, economic development and the national image of the state, the 37th admitted to the Union on March 1, 1867.
The unveiling of an official seal was the centerpiece of the announcement. The seal features a vista of the Platte River, Chimney Rock and sandhill cranes in flight against a golden sunset.
A status report on renovation and enhancement plans for Centennial Mall was provided because the plaza, named and built for the Nebraska Centennial in 1967, will be the centerpiece for major events during 2017.
