Automakers Hyundai and Kia are recalling 1.9 million vehicles due to problems with air bags and brake lights.
The recall impacts 2007 through 2011 model year Hyundai Accent, Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Santa Fe, Sonata, Tucson, and Veracruz and Kia's Optima, Rondo, Sorento, Soul, and Sportage.
U.S. safety regulators say the vehicles' cruise control may not turn off when the brake is pressed and the faulty switch can prevent the vehicle's brake lights from illuminating.
Also recalled is the 2011 through 2013 model year Hyundai Elantas because a bracket can come loose when the air bag inflates, which could hurt people.
Both automakers say they will notify owners of affected cars by mail and make needed repairs for free.
