The National Weather Service has scheduled radar upgrades at its three Nebraska offices.
The first installation will begin March 11 at the eastern Nebraska office in Valley. The Hastings office work is scheduled to begin on March 25, and the North Platte office work is expected to begin on April 8.
The upgrades are part of the weather service's goal to build a "Weather-Ready Nation" and better protect people from dangerous storms.
Weather service meteorologist Teresa Keck in North Platte says the new dual-polarization technology will help meteorologists determine precipitation types and gauge rainfall totals. She says it also will make it easier to see tornadoes at night.
The Des Moines and Davenport offices in Iowa received their upgrades last year.
