Officers Injured In Scuffle With Naked Man, Family Shocked

Two Omaha police officers were injured in a scuffle with a naked man Sunday morning.

Officers called to North 43rd and California streets just before 1 a.m. to check on a report of a naked man chasing someone located the suspect covered in blood and tried talking to him, but he wouldn't respond to questions. Police were able to determine that he had broken a window in his nearby apartment before heading outside.

The temperature at the time was 13 degrees, but the wind chill made it feel like -15.

The suspect suddenly attacked the officers. One suffered a concussion and the other was bitten on the hand. It took numerous officers to restrain 20-year-old Travis Kitkowski. He and the injured officers were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment.

Kitkowski's brother called WOWT Six News when he heard the news.

"That is what kinda took me by surprise, he has never done anything like that before; at least to my knowledge," George Kitkowski, suspect's brother.

George also is worried about Travis' future after an incident like this. Travis is in the National Guard.

"He's in the reserves. So I know he had to keep clean, he was going for his E5 and everything. And he was planning on being deployed here in the next year," said George.

Travis Kitkowski will be charged once he is released from the hospital.
