Prosecutor: Murder Victim Stabbed 40 Times

Prosecutors called one witness Wednesday morning during a preliminary hearing for Robert Grant, accused of killing an Omaha woman in her apartment last month.

OPD detective Thomas McQueen took the stand and testified that 43-year-old Trudy McKee was stabbed more than 40 times, suffering wounds to her face, neck, chest and head.

McKee's daughter found the body in the bedroom of their apartment at The Blossoms near South 99th Street and Park Drive on September 17th. The daughter told police she last saw her mother that morning in bed with Grant, who had been staying with McKee off and on and at metro homeless shelters.

Police found a duffel bag belonging to the 32-year-old Grant in the apartment filled with bloody clothes and shoes. DNA tests revealed the blood belonged to McKee and Grant, who had a small cut on his finger when he was caught boarding a bus to Chicago without paying.

The defense called the evidence circumstantial, arguing the murder weapon has not been recovered and no one saw Grant come to or leave the apartment.

The judge ruled there was probable cause to believe a crime had been committed and moved the case to district court. Family members of McKee were in court, but declined to comment.
