Decades of movie memorabilia is going on the auction block in Missouri Valley, Iowa on Saturday, January 21st.

The posters, displays and films were collected over a lifetime but now are up for sale. Channel 6 News was given a preview of some of the rare pieces up for auction.

Scott Martin believes this record is the most interesting piece of the upcoming auction. From Hitchcock's "Psycho" it is the music played inside the theater before the movie started.

But the collection being auctioned is huge and Martin says there is something for everyone.

Scott Martin says, "Everything from Disney to horror movies, every kind of movie you could ever imagine; action, drama, he had everything."

Lee Rasmussen and he owned the local movie theater for 30-years, but he worked in theaters and drive-ins his entire life. He collected the items up for auction over the years and preserved them in mint condition.

Scott Martin says, "It is a lot rarer than people think it is. Most movie theater owners didn't save the things that came in."

Rasmussen obviously did; westerns, animated movies, even an Elvis poster is part of one of the lots.

There is also obsolete equipment like film reels and drive-in outdoor speakers up for auction. Preparing everything for the auction is a big job.

Scott Martin says, "It is a vast collection and it is time consuming to go through but it is a lot of fun. That is the great part about my job, everyday is like Christmas."

And he gets to sell a little movie magic to others.

Martin believes there will be two or three movie memorabilia auctions. The first is Saturday, January 21st at noon at Scott Martin Auctions in the heart of Missouri Valley.
