No charges are pending against a motorcyclist in the death of a fellow biker last Saturday in Pottawattamie County.
The accident occurred along southbound L34 near Mahogany Road just after 1 p.m. when three motorcyclists traveling together tried to make a turn. Sheriff Jeff Danker says 66-year-old Randy Thompson was third in line when he took a corner too fast and struck the lead riders, 59-year-old Mark Leber and 60-year-old Gail Leber.
Thompson, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, suffered severe head injuries. CPR was performed at the scene before Thompson was taken by medical helicopter to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha where he later died.
Gail Leber was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs for treatment of minor injuries. Mark was treated at the scene. They were both wearing helmets.
A second accident happened Saturday evening at 24308 Hunt Avenue in Council Bluffs where 30-year-old Stephen Thompson was found in a ditch. Thompson died at the scene. It is believed Thompson lost control of his bike. He was not wearing a helmet.
Sheriff Danker said the Thompsons were not related.
