A man was killed in a motorcycle accident in Council Bluffs Friday morning.
The victim, 37-year-old Mickie Carroll of Council Bluffs, was heading northbound on Valley View Drive north of Mall of the Bluffs just before 7 a.m. when a southbound car apparently turned left in front of Carroll, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car, 66-year-old James Binns of Council Bluffs, was not hurt. Charges may be pending after the investigation into the crash is complete.
Marlon Carroll had expected a weekend of fun with his little brother when he got the news.
“I lost my brother,” he said. “He tried to avoid it. It’s the skid marks from him trying to stop, the other driver didn't stop until he got hit."
The frustrations build for the family despite the fact that Mickie was not wearing a helmet, he was not required to in Iowa, because the driver of the car turned in front of the oncoming motorcycle.
Marlon said, "Not so much hate because I don't know the person but frustration."
Mickie’s father, Jesse G. Carroll. Said, “My baby boy - he went fast."
Mike Uhrlaub was on the scene with 25 years of medical experience. The former Army medic jumped into action alongside three others to try to help.
He said, “Yeah, I knew it was severe. You just, there was no response from him and obviously there was no pulse, you know it was real bad. Being a health care professional you want to help people and you see somebody hurt and that is the first thing you think of."
Mickie’s brother Monty Sellers said Mickie is, "just really going to be missed.”
Carroll's family tells WOWT 6 News that they plan to set up a fund or hold a fundraiser to help support his two children.
