It happened shortly after 3 p.m.
Police say 22-year-old Cory M. Cozad of Council Bluffs was riding northbound on 132nd Street near I Street, accelerated rapidly and ran a red light. Investigators say his motorcycle crashed into the back of a semi that was turning from southbound 132nd onto eastbound I Street.
Police say the truck had nearly cleared the intersection when the motorcycle hit it.
Cozad suffered broken ribs, a right scapula fracture and a fractured left femur. He is expected to recover.
