A Huxley, Iowa woman charged in the deaths of her newborn twins pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder Thursday in a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Jackie Burkle pleaded guilty in Story County District Court. Her attorney, Maria Ruhtenberg, said Burkle was sentenced to two 50-year prison sentences to be served concurrently. Ruhtenberg said Burkle did not make any statements at the hearing.
Burkle had been charged with first-degree murder. She was arrested in January after the bodies of the twin girls were found in the trunk of her car.
