Tara Olson was in South Dakota when her baby's father and live-in girlfriend committed acts that ultimately sent them to prison for attempted child abuse. They are still behind bars but the child’s mother can only visit her son in foster care and she wants him back.
Tara said, “I just want him home. I'm tired of dealing with this. There are nights I don't sleep because he's not with me because I don't know if he's OK."
The scars and wounds are healing on Tara Olsen's son Aiden. She can't believe that her child’s father would hurt his own son but she says she had a bad feeling about leaving him alone with Chad Cymbalista.
She said, “When Aiden would show up at my house for his weekly visit in December and January, he would show up with bruise marks across his face. Bite marks. He would show up starved."
But Tara says she was a victim herself. She finally left her boyfriend when the violence got to be too much. “He slammed my head into the wall on my birthday," she said.
“May of 2011 he had put his hands on my daughter and me and that's what made me leave him. And I took my son with me and he filed for temporary custody of him and he got him."
Tara says the abuse occurred during one of the court ordered visits. Her son and former boyfriend were in Omaha while she was in South Dakota.
Tara wants to take Aiden home to be with his sister and the rest of his family but she says she is getting nothing but the run-around from the Nebraska system.
Tara says she never abused her children and does not deserve to be separated from her child. Olson has a court date in March, then she hopes to be reunited with her son.
