Mid afternoon storm on Sunday causes problems in Cass county. Lightning, strong winds and hail hit the Plattsmouth area about 3:30pm.
1.25 inch hail was reported by law enforcement at 3:33pm.
Reports of trees and tree limbs downed by strong winds were then received at various locations around Plattsmouth. Nebraska Public Power District repair crews hit the streets as power outages occurred in Plattsmouth.
The Cassgram says a report to the National Weather Service through the Cass County Emergency Management Agency put estimated wind gusts at 65 to 70 mph.
There was some personal property damage from the trees and limbs.
Lightning struck the roof area of a house at 14513 Hackberry Lane at Copper Dollar Cove. The Plattsmouth and Louisville volunteer fire departments responded. A small fire in a wall was brought under control with relatively minor damage to the structure, said Plattsmouth Fire Chief Mike Wilson. He said the residents should be able to return to their home after an electrical inspection is made.
