A woman was formally charged Friday with two counts of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in connection with a heart-wrenching chain of events.
Tamika Brown’s 11-year-old son was hit by a car in the area of 78th and Blondo on April 28th and was taken to the hospital. When she learned of the accident she, along with some friends and relatives, raced to Creighton University Medical Center to be with the boy. They never made it.
Police say Brown ran a stop sign at the intersection of 50th and Decatur streets and collided with another vehicle. Brown’s friend Delanie Harris and her unborn child were killed in the crash.
Tamika’s son Deontrey was treated and released for the injuries he sustained in the earlier accident.
Tamika now faces two counts of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide. If found guilty Brown could be sentenced to two years in prison.
Judge Edna Atkins appointed the Douglas County Public Defender’s Office to represent Brown and released her on her own recognizance.
