A mother will stand trial for her role in a fight between her son and another student. Prosecutors say not only did she not stop the fight, she took a punch at the boy her son was fighting.
Thirty-one-year-old Alisha Hazen was bound over to District Court on two charges, child endangerment and assault causing bodily harm. The third charge she was arrested on, delinquency of a minor, has been continued until late-March.
In November 2012, a YouTube video came to the attention of Council Bluffs police. It showed a seventh-grader and an eighth-grader outside Kreft Primary School in the Lewis Central District, fighting each other while a number of children watched.
According to the arrest warrant, witnesses told investigators that Hazen escorted her son to the school across the street from their apartment where the fight took place and said that she would "bet" on her son that he was going to win.
The 13-year-old student who videotaped the fight told detectives that the mom told her son to pull his opponent's hair and punch him. He also says he witnessed her punching the other boy.
