Authorities say an Iowa woman was distracted by her 2-year-old son before a car crash that killed him.
The Iowa State Patrol says 31-year-old Jennifer Saffell, of Lacona, was driving on Highway 65 near Indianola Tuesday afternoon when she became distracted by her son, who was in a car seat. Officials say she turned to look at him and crossed the center line. Her vehicle struck an oncoming semitrailer.
Jacob Saffell was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother survived and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.
