It was quite the surprise Thursday morning for a veteran mother.
Bethany Gerlock is Clarke and Rebeka's fourth child, but it was anything but a routine delivery. Baby Bethany was born on the way to the hospital, delivered with the help of a Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department deputy while they waited for the ambulance.
"We pulled over, my husband called 911 and I delivered our baby," said Rebeka. "The deputy arrived and helped us clamp the cord with a shoestring and then the EMS crew came and took us by ambulance to Mercy Hospital. Both the baby and I are doing fine. We’d like to thank everyone who provided their assistance today. Every child and every birth is different, but this was a little unexpected.”
