Police say a Council Bluffs woman missing for more than a week contacted a friend Saturday morning to say she is okay and in Carlisle, Iowa, southeast of Des Moines. A Carlisle police officer met with 22-year-old Heather Betts and confirmed she is alright.
Betts was last seen early on the morning of April 18th getting into a dark colored car with a man she met on the Internet, heading to either Little Sioux or Missouri Valley. “I asked why is this guy picking you up at 2:30 in the morning, something is not right Heather," Vicky Carpenter told WOWT 6 News on Thursday.
Carpenter took in Betts about a year ago when her son Adam was dating Betts. "She goes, well he gets off work at 2. All week long she really just acted the same, but was glued to her little cell phone. She wouldn't talk to us when she was on that, she was on that all the time. We just want to know that she is safe, we ain't going to do nothing, we ain't mad. We just want to know that nobody took her and did something to her."
“Heather if you are out there, just please come home," her worried mother Tracey Baker told WOWT 6 News on Thursday. "Please call, we miss you, we are searching for you, we need to know that you are okay, just please call home. It's hard getting through work every day and trying to sleep at night. I don't know if she is out there hurt or if somebody has got her, I don't know where to go rescue her, I don't know where to go to rescue her at.”
