The family of a missing man says he is back home, reunited with them after a family friend saw the story on Channel 6 News.
Jesse Byers was found after a friend called family when the story aired on Channel 6 News. His family says he is doing all right, but still needs medical care. He will be staying with them until they can work out the logistics of where he is going to seek treatment and when.
Roxanne Byers says her son has pre-existing mental illness, and was at Alegent Creighton University Medical Center being treated for a broken jaw after a car accident. She says the hospital should have held her son here. “And they released him and I know it’s ‘cause he didn’t have any insurance. Where is Jesse now? “I don’t know, he’s on the streets.”
Channel 6 News talked to hospital officials who said Jesse was treated and released after 72 hours of care. Since he is an adult he left. What can his family do now? They would have to take the drastic measure of going to the county attorney’s office and filling out a statement that the individual is mentally ill and dangerous.
"If the county attorney agrees there is enough evidence to warrant an involuntary evaluation, then the sheriff will issue a warrant,” said John Sheehan with the Douglas County Mental Health Center.
