Missing Bicycle Turns Up on Ebay

An Omaha man thought he'd never see a prized personal possession again -- a $5,000 racing bicycle. And then he spotted it on eBay. Investigators tell him there is little they can do.

"It's sort of like seeing a ghost. You don't ever expect to see it again," said Gerald Kubiak.

Five months ago -- his bicycle fell off his bike rack on Interstate 680. And now it shows up for sale on e-bay. "This is unsafe merchandise. This is a bike that fell off a car at 60mph on the interstate."

Brand new --- this bicycle comes with a $5000 price tag. It's opening bid is set at $1,500.

Gerald Kubiak knows it's his because of special things he added to it. "It's a helpless feeling. I wish there was a way to track the person and let them know the situation."

Because it's a carbon fiber frame, there's no way to stamp a serial number on the frame

Omaha police left Kubiak a message saying there's little investigators can do. "Whoever has the bike now, there's no way to know if there are the ones who picked up the bike after it came off your car..."

He wishes he could get a moment with the seller to show him the evidence that the bicycle was his. "Finding something you may think that is yours. But I tell my children at the grocery store, if you see something laying there -- if it's not yours -- you don't touch it."
