Des Moines Woman Named Miss Iowa

A 21-year-old Des Moines woman was crowned Miss Iowa Saturday night in Davenport.

Alysa Olson, who earned a $10,500 scholarship, said her experience in past pageant's helped her prepare for the Miss Iowa contest. She is majoring in vocal performance at the University of Iowa.

Last Saturday, 20-year-old Megan Swanson of Omaha (pictured left) won the Miss Nebraska crown at the pageant in North Platte. She is a graduate of Millard North High School and is studying music at Belmont University in Nashville. Swanson hopes to set an example for others of what it's like to live a balanced life as she promotes total body wellness.

They will represent their states in the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City in September.
