King Science and Technology Magnet in Omaha wanted to help kids beat those fears at a seminar Thursday.
WOWT 6 News caught kids dancing at the Youth Frontiers Courage Retreat. It was one of many ice breakers at the event.
Staff at the school wanted to open a dialogue with kids to teach them about moral courage, identifying and beating social fears, and peer pressure.
“Everybody wants to be popular, everybody wants to fit in," says Cathy Hill, Counselor at King Science & Technology Magnet. "They don't want to stand out and call attention to themselves. That's pretty dangerous, because some of that groupthink is negative.”
Another event will be held for fifth graders at the school on Friday. They'll be discussing respect.
