Metro Seeing Signs Of Holiday Season

It has become a tradition; before Thanksgiving comes time to claim a Christmas tree.

It's moving day at Don and Phyllis Norskov's house. They're not moving out, but their 40 foot Blue Spruce is.

A crew from Union Pacific is helping cut down and haul away the tree that has been in this front yard for more than 20 years.

"It's outgrown itself," says Don, "It blocks the view. We're going to put in a Maple tree to replace it, but it won't be a tree that we can't see through."

The Norskov's tree is headed Downtown to become the centerpiece of the Durham Museum's 'Great Hall' during the Christmas Season.

Many families are thinking about their own fresh-cut trees, but on a much smaller scale.

"If you're really particular, looking for that really, really special, exactly what you want in a tree, you know, now's the time to come out. Beat the bad weather, if you want that perfect Christmas tree."

That's advice from Scott Lund with Santa's Woods.

After a customer has found and marked their perfect tree, they don't have to worry about somebody ripping that tag off and taking it for themselves. The trunk of every tree that's taken is also marked with blue paint.

"No cheating. There's no cheating in Christmas," says Lund.

By the way, the Durham museum's fully decorated tree will be unveiled the day after Thanksgiving.
