Harvest is almost over, but something important is being planted in a Bellevue field. Military personnel flying into Offutt Air Force Base can look down on final approach and see how much they are appreciated.
Volunteers are staking out this year’s message along Highway 370 and 25th Street, which will say "thank you for freedom." Among those helping are several off-duty Air Force personnel who will themselves be flying over.
“It’s nice to fly over and know the community appreciates us and puts this kind of detail into it for us just to say thank you,” says Sara Lively.
“Put a string line between the stakes, then take 25-pound bags of flour, open up a corner and sprinkle flower on the string line to outline these letters, then I'll get in the cab of a tractor with a disk,” says Walmart manager Chris Shotton.
The disking begins Thursday and air crews will see the message, which is always plowed leading up to Veterans Day.
