A mental evaluation has been ordered for Nikko Jenkins as the convicted killer awaits sentencing.
Judge Peter Bataillon ordered the evaluation Monday. State psychiatrists will examine Jenkins at the Lincoln Regional Center.
A defense psychiatrist recently filed documents claiming that Jenkins' mental state had deteriorated rapidly. The doctor says Jenkins is no longer competent to face a death penalty hearing.
State psychiatrists disagree. They say Jenkins is pretending to have a mental illness.
Jenkins is awaiting sentencing for the deaths of four people over 10 days last August.
