The city planning department held a public meeting Thursday night at Crossroads Mall to discuss plans and consider public input on how to revive the 72nd and Dodge Street corridor.
Back in the day, Crossroads Mall was the heart of the 72nd and Dodge Street corridor. The mall had a steady beat and business was good, but something happened. Business fell off and everything in and around the mall began to move in slow motion and businesses left.
Everyone has an opinion on how to speed things up again. “I'd really like to see American Eagle or something like Abercrombie & Fitch, something that appeals to the younger crowd,” said shopper Eloise Huneidei.
Furniture Row, across the street from the Crossroads, is planning major renovations and expects to grow with the surrounding area. Managers hope to see a Midtown Crossing-like development. “I've heard speculation about several different things, but I like the idea of the open air market, maybe give the area an urban feel as well,” said Furniture Row’s Pam Bailey.
